Some schools offer special programs
for children with special needs.
Parents with children who are having problems in a traditional school
environment may find the help their child needs at a therapeutic
boarding school. Students with special needs have conditions that range
from behavioral/emotional and mental disorders to autism, substance
abuse, learning disabilities, and developmental delays. In the case of a
therapeutic boarding school, a parent should ensure that specialists in
their child’s specific condition are available and always on site. Some
therapeutic boarding schools serving adolescents have been called
“boarding schools for troubled or struggling teens.” The term
“therapeutic” actually covers many different kinds of boarding schools.
For example, a therapeutic boarding school for troubled teens would
differ greatly from a therapeutic boarding school for students who are
blind or have impaired vision. College preparation is also on the
curriculum of therapeutic boarding schools for those students who excel
and want to take advantage of the opportunity.
